Unfortunately, injury and family issues prevent two members of Balfolket from travelling, so we’ve scaled down this year’s event to just Jake Thomasand Greywolf in the informal atmosphere of the Big Yurt at the beautiful Wildways woodland retreat centre in Shropshire. We’ll fill the rest of the evening with a jam session, so bring drums, rattles or what-have-you and let’s get blissed!
Greywolf (chief of the British Druid Order), singing self-penned songs from his CD, The Sign of the Rose, and others. Greywolf’s music has been likened to that of The Incredible String Band, Leonard Cohen and Neil Young and he might even be persuaded to play a few songs by them too. Greywolf mostly plays semi-acoustic guitar and assorted flutes and whistles, with forays into percussion, harp, shruti box and other exotics. Greywolf doesn’t do many gigs, so this is a rare opportunity. Below is an audience video filmed at the Wildways Folk Festival 2013 of one of Greywolf’s most popular songs, ‘The Lord of the Wildwood,’ the title track from his next CD.
As we’ve had to scale down this year’s event, there’s no longer a set ticket price. Instead, we’re asking a donation (suggesting £5) to help cover expenses for Jake and Greywolf. Book early to ensure a place as the venue only holds 50 people tops! If you’d like to stay over to avoid a late-night journey home, Wildways are offering a special rate of only £10 for overnight accommodation.
