I answered this question earlier in this thread, but for those who may have missed it, here’s my reply again:
“We do, as we always have, offer reduced rates for our courses to those on low incomes and will, in cases of genuine need, waive our fees altogether. People do need to ask though, as otherwise we are obviously unaware of individual’s circumstances.

One reason we charge is that I have devoted roughly 40 hours a week for the last 18 years into researching, writing and editing our courses and feel entitled to at least some recompense for 37,500 hours’ work. I am a pensioner. Druidry is my sole source of income other than the state pension. I have a son and daughter living at home, one of whom works part-time while I wholly support the other. For the work I do for the BDO I pay myself £3.17 an hour, less than one-third of the national minimum wage. I don’t think that’s unreasonable. We also pay for the maintenance of our website and course delivery system and occasionally help out BDO elders in need since they freely donate their time as tutors and in other capacities, usually over many years.

To which I would add, no one’s forcing anyone to sign up for our courses, whether they pay for them or not. If you object to paying for our courses, the answer is very simple: don’t! :-)
