Market Lavington, Wiltshire
Just north of Salisbury Plain, Market Lavington is a friendly village where people smile and say 'hello.' My children and I absolutely love it. Population about 2,500, yet so spread out and tree-lined that you'd never know it. Situated halfway between Avebury and Stonehenge, about twelve miles from each. It has a primary and a secondary school, both with good reputations borne out by their results. The village butcher sells meat from local farms, the Co-op is open seven days a week, there are a chemists, newsagents, post office, three pubs, Chinese and Indian takeaways. Further information about local tradespeople, services and accommodation can be found on the village website: http://www.marketlavington.org.uk.
Footpaths offer walks through fields and woods or up onto Salisbury Plain. The neighbouring villages of West Lavington and Easterton are within easy walking distance. A regular bus service runs into Devizes, the market town five miles to the north, with its supermarkets and leisure centre. Also within easy reach are Bath and Salisbury. The new village hall has underfloor heating provided by a heat exchange system. The crime rate is virtually zero. I've gone out for the day leaving my keys in the front door, come back and found them still there. The estate agents listed here have properties in a variety of price ranges to buy or rent in Market Lavington and the surrounding villages.
