BDO Gorseddau
A Gorsedd is a gathering of bards, plural Gorseddau. Those founded or sponsored by the BDO offer folk of many spiritual traditions the opportunity to come together in one circle to celebrate the festivals of the changing seasons and individual rites of passage such as blessings for children, handfastings (Druid weddings) and honouring the dead. As bardic gatherings they also, of course, include opportunities for bards to practice their craft in music, poetry and storytelling.
The first to be founded by the BDO was the Gorsedd of Bards of Caer Abiri, founded in 1993. The second was the Gorsedd of Bards of Cor Gawr, founded at Stonehenge in 1996. Our first overseas Gorsedd was the Seattle-based Gorsedd of Bards of Caer Pugetia. Other BDO Gorseddau have met at the Long Man of Wilmington in Sussex, at Dragon Hill by the Uffington White Horse, at the Rollright Stones in Oxfordshire, in Milton Keynes and other sites in the UK and overseas. Our idea was for others to pick up the idea so that a festival circuit was set up, making it possible to travel from Gorsedd to Gorsedd through the ritual year. Over the years, this has begun to come to fruition, as you will see if you visit the pages for our own Gorseddau and those set up by others.
