BDO Ovate Course
We are in the midst of compiling and editing the Ovate Course, so the brief outline below is subject to revision. As with the Bardic Course, the Ovate will be delivered in pdf format in six bi-monthly packages of four booklets each. It is programmed to follow the journey of human life around the wheel of existence from birth to death. Each phase of being is related to the growth of understanding of the universe and our developing interactions with it. Watchwords of the Ovate course are: Seership; Divination; Natural Philosophy; Healing; Rites of Passage.
OVATE COURSE OUTLINE
Package 1: Creation; Birth; Blessing the Newborn; Beginnings; Cosmology; Seership. Divination as communing with, and attempting to understand, the divine. Developing sensitivity and reason. Ogham, runes, tarot, etc.
Package 2: Childhood; Learning and Growth; Healing. Healing waters and their goddesses and gods, herbalism, massage, spirit healing, sound healing, etc. Dreamtime. Sacred and magical trees.
Package 3: Adolescence; Sexual Awakening; Puberty rites of passage; Philosophy: how the universe works and our role within it. Gods, Faery folk, Otherworlds, etc. The nature and role of magic in Druidry.
Package 4: Maturity; Marriage Rite; Opening to a deeper understanding of spirit, how it moves through our lives and the universe and how we interact with it. Enhancing meditation and creating ritual. Working with spirits of place. Caring for our environment.
Package 5: Old Age; Recognising Wisdom; Meditation retreat. An opportunity to assess the journey so far, to deepen understanding and enhance practice.
Package 6: Death; Funeral Rites; A night vigil undertaken as a vision quest. Unlike the enclosed Cell of Song, this is to be undertaken in the open. Progress to Druid studies resolves on the outcome of this vigil.
